Modelry - A Random Walk through Internet Real Estate: Code.org Can Solve America's Economic Challenges

Code.org Can Solve America's Economic Challenges

We spend a lot of time here on ActiveRain talking about real estate & the economy, with good reason.  I wanted to highlight an interesting initiative from a friend of mine here in Seattle who is the founder of code.org who believes that computer education can make a meaningful dent in America's economic woes.

Without going into too much detail, computer engineering is one of the fastest growing and highest wage job categories in the country.  Our country does not promote computer education or engineering in any way.   If you look at future employment in the United States and compare against college degrees, there are going to be 1 million unfilled computer engineering jobs in the US by 2020. We as a country are doing next to nothing about it.

Take a minute, watch the below video, and then think about how you or your community can get involved in computer education for the country.    It's inspiring.  Show this to a son, daughter, niece or nephew.

This could be big.

Here's the simple math to boost the US economy over 7 years: Create 1 million of the highest paying jobs & generate $500Bn in GDP for the country.

This is a big, but powerful idea.  Give it some thought or at least 5 minutes of your time at Code.org

(Pretty cool that Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, & DropBox CEO Drew Houston and many others are behind this effort).

You know, way back in the day.... early 80s I was writing code in my HIGH SCHOOL, and today my rural county high school has graduated some of the best paid programers in the field.  Turned out not to be what I wanted to do, but I was given the opportunity to go that direction.  My BFF did go that direction.  She is rocking it too.

Coding may be the future of business around the world. All the kids these days have smart phones and social media. :)

Love and light,

Thanks for the comments Dorie and Tammy! Regardless if one becomes a computer engineer or not, exposure to programming is important. I bet that your early exposure to computer programming has really helped you with social media and understanding how to apply technology to real estate. So far, both of my daughters like math a lot. I hope they keep up a passion for science and math. Both are good ways to learn how to solve problems. If you are good at solving problems, I guarantee someone needs your help.

Yep, Niki.  I watched that one and listened....I'll be dangling the carrot of a new laptop to my daughter for her to take a programming class this summer.  Just got to find one designed for kids..shouldn't be that hard around here.
